Against the backdrop of profound adjustments in the global economic landscape and the continuous advancement of the Belt and Road Initiative, Chinese companies' "going global" efforts are facing new opportunities and challenges. The Shandong Provincial Association for Foreign Investment and Economic Cooperation (hereinafter referred to as the "Foreign Economic Association"), as a core platform for the international development of Shandong enterprises, has always been committed to helping member enterprises develop international markets and promote international cooperation. Zhongheng Qingtai Jinan Office is a standing director unit of the Foreign Economic Association, with Yu Cuilan, Deputy Director of the Jinan Office, serving as Deputy Secretary-General.

To better serve the cross-border development of enterprises and help them move steadily in the international market, Zhongheng Qingtai will launch the J&T - "Belt and Road" column, focusing on the practical exploration of our lawyers' participation in business investigations in countries along the Belt and Road and providing cross-border legal services for enterprises, sharing industry trends and valuable experience.

From May 12 to 23, at the invitation of the Foreign Economic Association, Su Na, partner and director of the International Business Center of Zhongheng Qingtai Jinan Office, accompanied the Foreign Economic Association's inspection team on a 10-day cross-border business investigation to Nepal, Bangladesh, Thailand, and Vietnam. During this time, extensive exchanges were conducted with Chinese companies, local companies, and legal service institutions. This trip focused on the market potential along the Belt and Road and the South Asia corridor, empowering Chinese companies' cross-border investment with legal means, building bridges for international cooperation, and helping Shandong enterprises accurately position themselves in overseas markets.

The inspection team's first stop was Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, where they held talks with representatives of Power Construction Corporation of China and Shandong Power Construction No. 1 Company at the joint representative office of Power Construction Corporation of China in Nepal. The Nepal country representative of Power Construction Corporation of China No. 1 Company and Nepal Association of Chinese Enterprises representative Mr. Chen Xu introduced the national conditions, humanities, and investment and operation status of Chinese enterprises in Nepal. Lawyer Su Na inquired about the legal service needs, supply, and urgent problems of Chinese enterprises stationed in Nepal.

To further understand Nepal's legal service system, Lawyer Su Na visited Wisdom Law Associates and exchanged views with Mr. Kiran Paddle and his partners. Through the meeting, both law firms enhanced their understanding and reached a preliminary cooperation intention.

At the second stop, the inspection team arrived in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and met with the Bangladesh Association of Chinese Enterprises. They held talks with representatives of more than 20 Chinese enterprises in Bangladesh, including China Railway, China Construction Seventh Engineering Bureau, China CAMC Engineering Co., Ltd., Mingyang International, Shandong Expressway Bridge, Shandong Power Construction No. 3, China Hydropower, Jiangsu United Water, and Silk Road Overseas Warehouse, to fully understand the investment environment, opportunities, and risks in Bangladesh. During this period, Lawyer Su Na held talks with Mahdin Choudhury, partner and trial lawyer of EDEN Chambers, to discuss the Bangladesh legal service market, legal service needs of foreign-invested enterprises, establishment and operation of foreign law firms, and cooperation between the two parties.

At the third stop, the inspection team arrived in Thailand and visited Meide Group's Thai Steel Company in Thailand. The head of Thai Steel Company gave the inspection team a detailed introduction to the company's development history, global layout, and advanced experience in legal compliance, labor employment, and domestic and foreign coordination. Meide Group is a long-term client of our firm, and our foreign-related lawyers have also assisted it in demonstrating the legal procedures and risks of investment in Thailand. Eight years later, witnessing the successful establishment and vigorous development of Thai Steel Company, we deeply feel the strategic determination of Chinese companies' "long-termism" in going global, and further confirms the forward-looking value of "legal escort" in cross-border investment.

In Thailand, the inspection team also visited the Shandong General Chamber of Commerce in Thailand and held talks with representatives of Shandong businessmen in Thailand, engaging in in-depth discussions on international engineering, overseas labor services, legal services, and education going global. Mr. Shi Dato, President of the Shandong General Chamber of Commerce in Thailand and head of Dato Law Firm in Thailand, gave a detailed introduction to the characteristics of legal services in Thailand, key investment risks for Chinese enterprises, and the overseas layout of Chinese law firms, and expressed his intention to visit Zhongheng Qingtai law firm to discuss cooperation this year.

The last stop of this inspection was Vietnam. The inspection team visited the Ho Chi Minh City branch of the Vietnam China Chamber of Commerce, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), and LOTUS Human Resources Joint Stock Company and Weihai Wanfang Vietnam Company in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, exchanging information and exploring cooperation opportunities with Chinese and Vietnamese enterprises. Lawyer Su Na held talks with Mr. Kong Xiangping from Hengyuan United Law Firm in Ho Chi Minh City and Ms. Wei Jiang, legal affairs manager of LOTUS Company in Hanoi, on legal services for Chinese enterprises in Vietnam and future cooperation, reaching a preliminary cooperation intention.

This cross-national inspection was successfully concluded under the overall planning of Yu Jianlin, vice president of the Shandong Provincial Association for Foreign Investment and Economic Cooperation. The association, with its precise planning and efficient execution, built a high-quality resource docking platform for participating enterprises and law firms, and representatives also established deep friendships during the inspection. Through visits to the markets of four countries, our firm has a more intuitive understanding of the investment policy dynamics, localized compliance pain points, and core demands of Chinese enterprises in South and Southeast Asia, gaining cutting-edge insights and practical experience in cross-border law firm cooperation, overseas layout of Chinese law firms, and regional compliance model construction.

Next, Zhongheng Qingtai will continue to cultivate the legal ecosystem of the Belt and Road Initiative, providing professional, localized, and forward-looking services to continuously empower Chinese enterprises along the Belt and Road, using legal services as a fulcrum to help Chinese commercial forces ride the waves and grow resiliently in the face of global changes!
